Barbora Krejcikova capped a superb week in Athens by defeating Maria Sakkari in the final of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open WTA 250, lifting the inaugural singles trophy at Stadium Sports Center.

Barbora Krejcikova was crowned the inaugural singles champion of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open WTA 250, defeating Maria Sakkari 7-6(5), 6-3 in a high-quality final to capture the ninth WTA singles title of her career.

Played in front of a packed crowd at Stadium Sports Center, the championship match lived up to expectations, with both players producing outstanding tennis and earning a standing ovation from the spectators.

The final was decided by the finest of margins. Krejcikova edged the overall points won 64-60 and converted the key moments more effectively. The opening set remained on a knife edge throughout before the Czech prevailed 7-5 in the tiebreak to take a one-set lead.

Sakkari responded strongly in the second set and managed to break serve, but Krejcikova answered immediately before securing another crucial break that proved decisive. Serving for the championship at 5-3, the No. 3 seed closed out the match to lift the inaugural Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open WTA 250 trophy.
