Maria Sakkari advanced to the quarterfinals of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Athens Open WTA 250 with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 victory over Harriet Dart in the second round.
Playing once again in front of a passionate home crowd at Stadion Sports Center, the No. 4 seed delivered another dominant performance, comfortably booking her place in the last eight, where she will await the winner of the remaining second-round matchup.
Both players held serve in the opening stages of the match (1-1), before Sakkari earned the first break to move ahead 2-1. From that point on, the Greek star took complete control, reeling off four consecutive games to wrap up the opening set 6-1.
Sakkari carried that momentum into the second set, breaking Dart immediately to take an early lead. Although the Brit responded to level the score at 2-2, Sakkari once again raised her level, winning the final four games of the match to seal a 6-2 second set and secure her place in the quarterfinals.
Sakkari's quarterfinal match is scheduled for Friday, July 17, with the official match time to be announced on Thursday afternoon.
